【Plant Source】：The bark of the pine tree, a species of the genus Pinus in the family Pinaceae. Pine trees are tall, reaching up to 45 meters in height with a trunk diameter of 1 meter. The bark is reddish-brown, and the branches spread horizontally or obliquely, forming a broad tower-shaped or umbrella-shaped crown. The branches grow in annual rings (two rings in Guangdong). Winter buds are ovate-cylindrical or cylindrical. The needles are slender, soft, slightly twisted, with stomatal lines on both sides and fine serrations on the edges. The leaf sheaths are persistent. Male cones are pale reddish-brown, cylindrical, clustered in the lower axils of new branches, and spike-like. Female cones are clustered near the top of new branches, pale purplish-red. The seeds are long-ovoid. Flowering occurs from April to May, and the cones mature from October to December of the following year.  

The species is widely distributed, ranging from Zhejiang and southern Shandong in the north to Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan (Cili County), and Taiwan in the south, and from the eastern coast to central Sichuan and Guizhou in the west. It is found throughout central and southern China, generally at altitudes below 600-700 meters in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, above 1200 meters in the middle reaches, and below 1500 meters in the upper reaches. It is a major timber species in southern China with high economic value.
