【Plant Source】: The mature fruit skin of the grapevine Vitis vinifera L., a deciduous woody vine up to 10 meters long. Young stems are smooth or slightly hairy. Leaves are papery, alternate, round or ovate, 10–20 cm wide, often 3–5 lobed, heart-shaped at the base, with coarse and slightly sharp serrations, densely covered with cobweb-like hairs underneath; petioles are 4–8 cm long. Flowers are polygamous, dioecious, with large and long panicles opposite the leaves; flower stalks lack tendrils; calyx is very small, cup-shaped, entire or with indistinct 5-toothed lobes; petals are 5, yellow-green, fused at the apex and not spreading, separated at the base, falling off as a cap-like structure during flowering; stamens are 5; the floral disc is raised, formed by 5 glands, fused with the ovary at the base; ovary is 2-chambered, with 2 ovules per chamber; style is short, conical. The berry is oval to oblong, juicy, turning purplish-black or reddish-green when ripe, covered with a waxy bloom. Flowering occurs in June, and fruiting in September–October.
